Unprepared and distracted

On the first day of Kenneth's trial, his private defense attorney William Monfried made clear that he was unprepared for a trial. He had requested a postponement in order to obtain a ballistics expert for the defense, a postponement that the judge did not grant. Monfried also mentioned that his mind was elsewhere since he was experiencing a family emergency.

Monfried was disbared in 2000. Former clients describe a once high performing attorney in a period of decline who failed to show up for court proceedings.
